Wine School

Can a little learning enhance the enjoyment you get from a glass of wine?

Absolutely! That is exactly where our Enjoy Wine course comes in.

“Super-informative, relaxed and fun, Kiran is a great wine educator and enthusiast. Enjoying Wine definitely does what it says on the tin!”

Whether you are an experienced wine drinker looking to deepen your understanding, or simply someone with more enthusiasm than experience, this course will help you explore the world of wine with greater confidence and enjoyment.

Delivered in a small group the course will help you understand why one wine tastes different to another, discover the styles you enjoy most, and feel more confident in choosing wine.

Along the way, you will learn more about the grapes, the places, the people and the wine making behind the wines, enriching the experience of every glass you drink.

A very enjoyable learning experience! A small group sitting around a dining table with a wine expert, tasting and improving your understanding about wines and what you enjoy. Many thanks again! 5 stars and “would recommend “ 😀”

Enjoy Wine is a three part course, with each part made up of three two hour sessions.

You will learn through a carefully curated tasting experience, supported by a few clear visual aids.

Every session is built around a guided tasting, where you will compare and contrast several wines side by side. Each wine is chosen to tell a story and bring the learning to life.

We begin by tasting the wines blind, which helps you focus on what you notice in the glass before revealing each wine and exploring what makes it distinctive.

There is lots of interaction with anonymous online polls and chances to vote for your favourite wines.

By keeping the group small and atmosphere relaxed there is plenty of opportunity for questions and some lively discussion.

Part 1: How understanding style can help you choose wine and why wine tastes the way it does.

In Part 1, you will:

  • Compare a range of white and red wine styles and explore which ones you prefer and why.
  • Develop your wine tasting technique.
  • Understand the key elements of wine, including sweetness, acidity, tannin, body and alcohol.
  • Discover why structure is so important when pairing wine with food.
  • Learn the basics of how wine is made and how the winemaker’s choices shape the final style.
  • Begin to understand what makes one wine ‘better’ than another and to have confidence in your own judgement.

Part 2: Grape varieties, from international favourites to exciting indigenous varieties

In Part 2, you will:

  • Taste and analyse the key traits of classic red and white grape varieties.
  • Explore how well known grape varieties express themselves differently depending on where they are grown.
  • Understand how climate and wine making influence the character of a wine.
  • Discover unique indigenous grape varieties, from famous names to lesser known gems.
  • Deepen your understanding of wine quality.

Part 3: Wine regions, classic and emerging

In Part 3, you will:

  • Taste recent and mature vintages from several classic European wine regions.
  • Compare these with internationally renowned regions producing wines of similar quality.
  • Explore how wine ages and develops in bottle.
  • Discover emerging regions producing characterful and delicious wines.
  • Build your confidence in choosing wines.

Each part of the course builds upon the previous part but can also be taken as stand alone parts. The course normally runs in the spring and autumn.
